Reiki Healing

Reiki is an ancient tradition that traces its roots back to what is now Tibet, originating around 3,000 B.C. It was founded by Dr. Mikao Usui in the early 20th century who passed on knowledge to others who have since spread it around the world. Reiki (ray- key) is a Japanese word for ray meaning “Universal “and Ki meaning “the vital life force”. Reiki can be defined as the art of activating, applying, and balancing the universal life force energy within and around us. This energy lives in every living being, animal and plant life. When this energy flows uninterrupted there is harmony and peace within and around us and we experience a sense of wellbeing. Reiki is a holistic form of healing and works on the mind, body, and spirit. It works on the mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual levels at the same time. The term “healing” refers to the balancing of energy in the body so that it may heal itself. Any person can practice Reiki. It is non-religious and open to any belief system. People of many faiths and religions use it successfully.

Reiki treatment

The method of receiving Reiki is simple. The recipient remains clothed and lies on a plinth or sits on a chair. The practitioner gently places their hands in a series of non-intrusive positions on or near the body. There is no massage or manipulation. The whole person is treated rather than specific areas. Sessions can take 45 minutes to an hour depending on the clients needs.
Reiki practitioners are not trained in diagnosis and will not predict any specific outcome to the treatment. If people are concerned about their symptoms they should see a doctor.
The practice is taught by Reiki Masters /teachers who have trained in the tradition passed on in person from Master to student.

What does a Reiki Treatment feel like?

Each person experiences Reiki differently depending on their individual needs at the time. Some may feel heat, cold, tingling, pulsating sensations. Some clients may not feel any sensations during the treatment.

Benefits reported by clients.

  • Calm and peaceful feeling.
  • Deep relaxation.
  • Emotional response indicating that shifts were taking place, allowing harmony to be restored.
  • Experience of seeing colors in their mind's eye.
  • One client claimed it woke him up to his life and his issues and his realization that they need to be addressed.
  • Feeling of being safe, more grounded, connected to themselves.

While falling asleep on each treatment. Reiki works to replenish the energy field. This gave acknowledgment to the client that their energy was low, and they needed to review how they could help themselves and their energy and make adjustments.

Reiki is a safe and soothing treatment and can help people in many ways. It can bring peace and calm, and quieten the mind and body to cope in challenging times. It can reconnect a person who may feel overwhelmed or isolated. It can be beneficial in the short term but can also support people dealing with long term conditions. It can bring comfort, acceptance, and a more positive outlook.
Reiki can be supportive for adults, teenagers, children, animals and helpful at the end of life.

How much would I need?

A single session may be sufficient, but it is best to discuss this with the practitioner. If there is a long-standing emotional issue or spiritual issue, a series of sessions may be beneficial. If helpful and changes are taking place, it is a good idea to continue treatment.

“Reiki is like a river, revitalizing life. Bringing joy, comfort, love, and light. A connection to the truth of who and what you are! The never- ending flow of one’s own natural ability to heal oneself.” Melissa
